Elimination of Equipment Screening Certificate


Equipment Screening Certification is Not Required

Effective immediately the Equipment Screening Certificate is no longer required when submitting purchase requisitions. This change is due to adjustments in federal grant and contract regulations.

While the Certificate may no longer be required, federal regulations still state that the University “must avoid acquisition of unnecessary or duplicative items.” Thus, please be sure to determine if there is suitable and available equipment in your area for use on your research project prior to applying for and purchasing new equipment through both federal and non-federal sponsors.

Finally, federal regulations also encourage the University “to use Federal excess and surplus property in lieu of purchasing new equipment and property whenever such use is feasible and reduces project costs.”
