Paper Savings and Printer Settings

Your decisions regarding which printer to use and which print mode to select will generate immediate and significant results in terms of both reducing the amount of paper used for printing as well as reducing the overall amount of funds spent on purchasing paper.

You can achieve real cost savings and at the same time help the environment by printing on both sides of a sheet of paper, i.e. Duplex or 2-Sided Printing.

For Microsoft Vista or Windows XP applications:

To print on both sides of a sheet of paper:

  • Open the document you wish to print
  • Select PrintSelect which printer you wish to use
  • Select the Properties tab on the Printer dialogue box
  • Select “2-Sided Printing” on the tab marked Paper/Output
  • Select either “Flip on Long Edge” or “Flip on Short Edge”, then click OK.

 For Apple - Macintosh applications:

To print on both sides of a sheet of paper:

  • Open the document you wish to print
  • Select File > PrintChoose Layout from the print options pop-up menu
  • If your printer supports two-sided (or duplex) printing, choose an option from the Two-Sided pop-up menu.
  • You can save this setting as a “preset” so you don’t have to select it each time that you print.

To establish Duplex Printing as the default mode for your printer, contact your IT administrator and request that the default setting for that printer be set to Duplex or 2-Sided Printing.
