Addgene: Special Purchasing Instructions

Ordering from Addgene

Addgene has indicated that all of its products must be purchased directly from its website.  PantherExpress - Purchasing Services has reviewed and approved of Addgene’s website purchase terms and conditions. University customers will need a Purchase Order (PO) number that is generated through the Non-catalog Standard Form in the PantherExpress System (PES) or a P-Card to place orders.  Therefore, in order to ensure successful completion of your Addgene order, please follow these instructions:  

  1. Either create a PO number in the PES using a standard non-catalog form but do not submit the PO to Addgene or have your P-Card number available.  In order to prevent the PO in PES from being sent to Addgene:

    • Under the Distribution section on the standard non-catalog form, select “Check this box to customize the order distribution information”.

    • Select “Manual”.  This will stop the transmission of the order to Addgene.

  2. If using a PO, note the PO number that you just created in the PES.

  3. Go to Addgene’s website and add the purchase to your cart as usual.

  4. Either enter the PO number that you noted above as your payment option or select the option that allows you to enter your P-Card number.

  5. Addgene will issue an invoice against the PO to the billing address that you provided at checkout or Addgene will charge your P-Card if you provided your P-Card number.

  6. Reminder – if you have chosen to use a PO do not transmit (email, fax, etc.) the PO to Addgene.

Since Addgene is not a University-wide contracted supplier, purchases greater than $5000 will require you to submit a requisition using the Non-catalog Standard Form in the PES and a Directed or Sole Source Justification form to Purchasing Services.  Purchasing Services personnel will then work with you to place the order.

Finally, please note that Addgene requires a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) for all purchases.  After orders are submitted Addgene has a well-established process through the Office of Research to only ship orders after Addgene obtains all required signatures on the MTA.
